POLISHING
YOUR AIR CHAIR FOIL
There
are a few things you can do to your Air Chair foil assembly to
keep it at it’s ultimate performance. You want to keep your foil
as tarnish free as possible. After every ride when you put the
Air Chair back in your boat remember to wipe it down with a clean,
dry, soft towel. After a couple of days on the lake you will want
to polish your foil with aluminum polish. We like to use Mothers
Aluminum Polish.
If
you have let your foil assembly get badly tarnished or you are
finding it hard to remove the tarnish here are some more specific
suggestions.
CAUTION:
DO NOT LET ANYONE STAND BY TO OBSERVE. IF A PART SHOULD GET JERKED
FROM YOUR HANDS IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS INJURY.
You
can use a hand held Disk Sander with a soft buffing pad or a bench
grinder with a 6” buffing wheel. If a bench grinder with a buffing
wheel is going to be used maximum rpm should be 4000. Hand held
sander/polisher’s with polishing pad should not have over 1700
RPM. When using hand held polishers clamp part to be polished
securely to a work bench. Use a block of polishing rouge for aluminum.
It comes in various sizes and shapes. When it is spinning, touch
the rouge to the buffing wheel (don’t be afraid of using too much
rouge, it’s not expensive!). Be sure you remove the blades from
the T-bar and polish one piece at a time. Hold your blade to the
wheel, be VERY careful during this stage. The buffing wheel is
spinning so fast it heats the parts a bit, so you may want to
wear gloves. Caution also needs to be exercised about the angle
you hold parts on the buffing wheel. You don’t want the top edges
catching the wheel. Do the bottom half of the blade turn it around
180 degrees, and do the other half. If you are not careful your
part may be flung to the floor. After buffing, I go over it with
Mother’s or Flitz aluminum polish. The polish does not make it
any shinier, but it protects the metal longer so you wont have
to buff it every time after a day on the water.
If you choose to polish your seat tower make sure you secure the
seat belt down tight. DO NOT EVER LET IT COME IN CONTACT WITH
THE WHEEL OR POLISHER. To secure seat belt fold it tightly back
and forth and duct tape it down secure away from all aluminum
to be polished.
